Massachusetts High School Football Scoreboard - Semifinals

They say the second time is the charm and that's the case for BC High, which shocked three-time defending state champ Everett in the Eastern Mass Division 1 semifinals Tuesday night. The Eagles, who lost 26-0 to Everett during the regular season, moved-on to Saturday's Super Bowl with a 9-0 victory at Manning Field in Lynn. BC High will play Brockton in the Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. Click here for game story.
Massachusetts High School Football Scores Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Center Grove (IN), Maine South (IL) and Muskegon (MI) all won state championships last weekend, and in addition to the shiny trophies, all three are in the new USA Today Super 25 released on Tuesday. Joining that trio is Grayson (GA), which hops into the rankings at #14 after taking down defending Georgia champ and former #4 Lowndes in the GHSA quarterfinals on Friday.

Massachusetts Post-Season Begins Tuesday

The craziness that is Massachusetts high school football playoff begins Tuesday night. The eastern Mass semis are set for tomorrow night and then the winners have to bounce back and play in the Super Bowls on Saturday.
In Division 1, the semifinals are rematches for '07 with BC High (9-1) taking-on two-time defending champ Everett (9-1). The winner of that gets the Brockton-Dartmouth winner. Top-ranked Dartmouth won last year's semifinal and then lost to Everett 36-28 in overtime in the Super Bowl.

PrepNation.com National Prep Poll

The are five new teams in this week's National Prep Poll released by PrepNation.com. North Penn (Lansdale, PA) bolts into the poll at #11. This week the Knights will play Liberty for Pennsylvania's eastern championship and the right to go to Hershey for the AAAA championship. North Penn is the only team to beat Liberty this year in the opening week of the season 23-15.
Phoebus (Hampton, VA) moves into the poll at #16 after knocking-off former #24 Stone Bridge to advance to Virginia's Division 5 title game next week. West Monroe (LA) joins the party at #18 followed by Central Grove (Greenwood, IN) at #22 and Glenville (Cleveland, OH) re-entering the poll at #23 on the strength of its 1-1 record against Ohio's Division I champ St. Ignatius, which moves up five spots to #8.

Phoebus made quick work of defending Division 5 champ Stone Bridge (#15 USA Today) 38-8 on Saturday in the Virginia state semifinals on Saturday. Coming into the game, Stone Bridge had a 26-game win streak and had outscored opponents by an average of 47 points this year. The Phantoms will play Dinwiddle for the state championship next week. Maine South Runs Its Way to Illinois 8A Title

Coming into Illinois 8A championship game, Maine South quarterback Charlie Gordo was known for winning games with his strong right arm. However, it was the Vanderbilt-bound QB's legs that carried the Hawks (14-0) to a 41-21 win over Hinsdale Central (11-3). Gordo, who entered the game with over 3,000 yards passing and 37 touchdowns, carried the ball 25 times for an 8A title game record 164 yards and a touchdown. East St. Louis Captures First Illinois Title Since 1991

Illinois' winningest high school football team captured its 740th win and seventh state championship all in one game. East St. Louis beat Geneva 33-14 in the 7A championship game in Champaign. The victory capped a great season for the Flyers who lost their opening game in the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Series and then reeled-off 13 straight victories. Click here for game story.
#16 St. Ignatius Wins Battle of Ohio Against #18 Elder

St. Ignatius (#16 USA Today) showed that it doesn't matter how you start the season, it's how you end it. Saturday the Wildcats, who lost its season opener to Glenville, finished with their 14th straight win to capture Ohio's Division I title with a 28-20 win over Elder (#18 USA Today) before 20,000 at Canton's Fawcett Stadium. Youngstown Ursuline Wins Ohio 5A Title

Youngstown Ursuline traded-in its 2007 silver medal for a gold medal on Saturday as it shutout Liberty-Benton 21-0 Saturday at Paul Brown Stadium in Massillon to capture the 2008 Ohio Division V high school football championship. Center Grove Mounts Big Comeback to Win Indiana 5A Title

Center Grove won its first Indiana state title Saturday and made history along the way. The Trojans rallied from a 19-point deficit with a little less than nine minutes to go in the game on the way to a 36-33 win over defending state champ Carmel at Lucas Oil Stadium. Liberty is back in familiar territory. Saturday the Hurricanes beat George Washington 30-13 to advance to the Pennsylvania AAAA eastern championship game next week against North Penn. Illinois 6A High School Football Title Goes to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin
